A vaccine is seen as essential to ending a pandemic that has killed nearly 370,000 people and infected more than 6 million so far, with world leaders looking at inoculation as the only real way to restart their stalled economies.

But running large-scale clinical trials of potential vaccines against a completely new disease at speed is complex, scientists say. Showing efficacy in those trials during a fluctuating pandemic adds extra difficulty – and doing so when outbreaks are waning makes it harder still.

Jammu and Kashmir: 13 terrorists killed along LoC in Mendhar-Poonch

The Indian army neutralised 13 terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Mendhar-Poonch region on Monday.

While three heavily-armed terrorists were killed in Rajouri district’s Nowshera sector on Monday morning, 10 more terrorists were killed in an encounter with army troops in Mendhar along the Line of Control in the Jammu division, army officials said.

Telangana records 199 new cases, five deaths on Sunday:

The health officials have also reported five fatalities taking the total number of Covid-19 deaths to 82 while the total number of coronavirus positive case rose to 2,698.

Of the 196 cases from Telangana, 122 were from areas under GHMC, which is also the largest one-day surge of cases here so far. Another 40 persons tested positive from Rangareddy district, 10 from Medchal, nine persons from Khammam, three each from Mahabubnagar, Jagtiyal and Medak, two cases from Warangal Urban and one positive case each from Suryapet, Nirmal, Yadadri and Jangaon. Three migrants workers who have returned from other States have also tested positive.

The polls to 18 RajyaSabha seats, deferred due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be held on June 19, the Election Commission announced on Monday.Out of these 18 seats, four each are from Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, two from Jharkhand, three each from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and one each from Manipur and Meghalaya.
