Over 5,000 Coronavirus Cases In India In 24 Hours, Biggest 1-Day Spike:

India has recorded the biggest single-day jump of 5,242 new coronavirus cases, with the total cases hitting 96,169, including 3, 029 deaths, Union Health Ministry figures this morning show. The jump comes on a day the government released guidelines for the fourth phase of the countrywide lockdown, which will continue till May 31. The government has put the ball in the court of states, allowing them to colour-code the zones according to the incidence of coronavirus, thereby taking a final decision on what activities are allowed in any particular area.

Cyclone Amphan Turns “Extremely Severe”; Bengal, Odisha On Alert

A cyclone alert has been sounded in West Bengal and Odisha as AMPHAN intensified into an “extremely severe” storm overnight, the weather office said. It is expected to make a landfall in Bengal on Wednesday.

Coronavirus: Hospitals in Brazil’s São Paulo ‘near collapse

The mayor of Brazil’s largest city, São Paulo, has said its health system could collapse as demand grows for emergency beds to deal with coronavirus cases.Bruno Covas said the city’s public hospitals had reached 90% capacity and could run out of space in two weeks.São Paulo is one of the country’s worst-hit regions, with almost 3,000 deaths so far.

ICMR issues revised Covid-19 testing strategy:

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), here on Monday, released a revised Covid-19 testing strategy, which included testing of all symptomatic influenza like illness (ILI) among returnees and migrants within 7 days of illness.According to new strategy, no emergency procedure (including deliveries) should be delayed for the lack of test. But the sample can be sent for testing simultaneously if the person showed symptoms prescribed in the guideline.

Fire breaks out at Hyderabad University campus, rages for 8 hours:

A fire that broke out near Mushroom Rock area of the University of Hyderabad on Tuesday afternoon raged for eight hours till it was brought under control.According to university officials, the fire that started near Gopichand Badminton Academy soon engulfed the area near Mushroom Rock which is covered by dry grass.
