Punjab extends lockdown till 17 May: nearly two weeks beyond 3 May deadline

Punjab becomes the first state to extend lockdown beyond 3 May giving four hour relaxation every day. The statement was made by Captain Amarinder Singh-led Punjab four days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi has to decide about the status of nationwide lockdown.

India is planning to deploy Navy and Air Force to evacuate thousands of Indians stranded abroad:

India said the Navy and the Indian Air Force have also been told to keep some of their platforms on stand-by for the evacuation which is likely to be the biggest after ‘Operation Raahat’. The government has already reached out to several states asking them to make necessary arrangements for the Indians when they are brought back home.

CBSE to hold pending class 10, 12 exams after assessing situation:

The pending examinations for Class 10 and 12 would be held after assessing the situation at the end of the lockdown, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said on Wednesday. Several States had suggested cancelling the pending exams and using internal assessment performance to allot grades instead.

South Korean workers killed in warehouse blaze in Icheon:

At least 38 people have been killed in a fire at a warehouse that was under construction in the South Korean city of Icheon.The blaze was caused by an explosion of flammable material being used in the installation of insulation in a basement, South Korean media reported.

Indian home ministry issues notice to allow stranded workers to return home:

India has said millions of people stranded by a nationwide lockdown can now return to their home states.A notice issued by the home ministry says people will need to be screened for symptoms at both source and destination, and be quarantined.However, the movement of people will be only possible through state government facilitation, which means people cannot attempt to cross borders on their own.

Tension at IIT-H prevailed as migrant workers attacked HR personnel and Police demanding wages:

Tensioned prevailed as hundreds of migrant workers working at Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) at Kandi in Sangareddy district allegedly attacked an HR personnel of L&T and Shapoorji Constructions who are carrying out the construction works on IIT-H campus.The provocation for the attack was the alleged delay in payment of their wages by the construction company, making life difficult for the workers.
